If you’re looking for a straightforward, no-fuss way to filter your water for drinking and cooking, a faucet mount water filter could be just what you need.

Also known as tap water filter, faucet water filters are devices mounted onto your regular faucets to provide filtration of the water passing through.

The actual level of filtration varies between models and systems but most are carbon filters and so perfect for removing chlorine, sediment and other contaminants. Some can remove bacteria and minerals such as lead.

Faucet Water Filters Benefits

Faucet water filters which use a combination of carbon and ion exchange filtration methods are more effective in removing contaminants.

Most models have a function that allows you to switch your tap back to regular water as need, for example, when you want to wash the dishes and don’t need filtered water. It also reduces use of your cartridges and so extends their useful life.

The main benefit of faucet mounted filters is their ease of installation. They need no plumbing to set them up; you just attach them to your existing faucet.

This makes them ideal if you’re renting your accommodation and can’t make any structural changes to the building.

Faucet filters give you an instant supply of drinking water and water for cooking. They’re also very economical and don’t take up much space. This is important if your kitchen is small.

Price wise, faucet water filters are more expensive than pitcher water filters but far more economical in terms of the volume of water they can process at a time. Plus you just turn on the tap and out the pure water comes, there’s no need to keep filling a pitcher up. They’re also cheaper than the under counter water filters.

On the downside, they suffer the common drawback of carbon filters, namely, they can’t be used with hot water and this can reduce filter life and flush filtered contaminants out of the cartridge.

Also as filter cartridges are small, you need to replace them more often. This makes them less economical than other types with larger filters such as the under sink type.

You should reckon on having to change the filter every three months or thereabouts though this of course depends on usage.

So if your pure water requirements are reasonably modest and you don’t want to go fiddling around with plumbing or making any major changes to your property, check out faucet water filters. They’re economical, easy to install and use and are just fine for most people’s needs.
